The budding young songstress is back with more of her glossy and impressively keen Indie Pop.
As a 21-year-old music student, Dasha is already on the ascent to prominence. Her self-written debut EP $hiny Things, released through Sony Music/Quadio earlier this year, boasts over a million Spotify streams and the polish of a musician with a vision. But not one to rest, she’s already releasing new music with the disarming single “Nervous.”
About the new single, Dasha told us: “‘Nervous’ is definitely the most vulnerable and personal song I’ve ever released. It’s absolutely terrifying singing about such a vulnerable situation…This song is about my first intimate experience. It’s about letting my guard down for the first time and letting someone know me better than I’ve ever let anyone. l was so in love, and it was a really special experience.”
Over a warbling mid-tempo synth line, Dasha recounts a quintessential early 20s experience – learning to bring down your walls when you’ve only just discovered what they are and where they stand. Yet, even when knocked off her emotional center by a first encounter, her intuition (and lyricism) are sharp, quipping, “When I’m on your skin, am I also in your head?”
With her whole life and career ahead of her, she’s spending time thinking about who she wants to be: “My main goal with my songs and songwriting is to relate to my supporters. I want my listeners to understand that I’m human and experience everything they do,” she says.
We’ll certainly keep an eye on her to see just how far she can go.
